Wonderful Continuation of the Series

I loved the first two books Vengeance Born (A Novel of the Light Blade)and Alliance Forged (A Novel of the Light Blade), I absolutely loved them both. To fully appreciate this book, Allegiance Sworn, you should read the first two. The world building, the three races of human, demon, and the half-blood of the two, Na'Chi.
SEMI-SPOILERS:
So the last book left us wondering what happened to Arek. The last we heard he suffered from a concussion and was being herded with others, captured, and taken away into slavery. So the story begins: Yes Arek is captured, and we find out first hand of his struggles, both physical and mental, in every situation. . . The uncertainty, the will to escape, to survive, to live true to his values, to consider his upbringing, to question just who he is and his knowledge of his world. . . Such a complex and wonderful characterization of Arek and I couldn't help but be captivated myself. He questions and is tested, his fierce determination and commitment, his strength to overcome -- All this and more made him the second to the Chosen, a strong position and so worthy of this warrior. As the story unfolds, he learns and grows, overcoming his hatred and vengeance, honing it, and realizing where his values are. Arek realizes his life has come to this point for a reason and life isn't always about long term because . . .
The demon Na'Reish are preparing for war. Arek and his new mistress, the leader of the Na'Reish Clan Kaal are targeted in this war, in more ways than one. They stand in the way, stand alone in this world, clinging to the old ways. Imhara Kaal is the Kaal Clan-leader and she is the one that influences and teaches Arek that life isn't always what he was taught to believe.
The romance is there, the wonderful depth of characters, my words just can't describe how I sunk into them. The demon Na'Reish are corrupt and the scenes are portrayed that way. The evil is there, well done, yet you know what their society is like: Humans are cattle, their humanity isn't respected, they are slaves to them, theirs to use and abuse and to kill. Realizing how corrupt the society is that Imhara lives in makes her role even more amazing.
Wonderful book and I'm sitting here still marveling over the depth to her characters. There are a few cameos from the past two books, a nice check to see how they're doing. Allegiance Sworn (A Novel of the Light Blade) is well written, great romance, well worth picking up to enjoy whether it's the first one you pick from this series or the last one written to date. This was a new author I picked up last year and I'm so glad I did. I recommend this series and am looking forward to more from Kylie Griffin. -- Dan's Wife

Allegiance Sworn by Kylie Griffin is the third book in her Light Blade series. For those of you who may not have read my reviews on the first two books, this is Urban Fantasy Romance. In this world created by Griffin, we have Humans, Na'Reish (demons), and Na'Chi (half demons). The series premise is built around the Light Blade warriors, and their battle against the Na'Reish demons. In the first two books, Kalan, the Light Blade Chosen, and his sister, Kymora, who is the Priestess, had their stories told, and we knew Arek, the third member of this close friendship would be next.
Kylie Griffin does a wonderful job continuing this series so smoothly in to the next storyline, where we pick up with Arek now being held by the Na'Reish as a prisoner. Arek makes such a wonderful and damaged hero, not to mention the hottest one yet. I loved Arek, with all his hotness, and his issues he must learn to deal with, but more about him later.
Arek has met his match, when he meets a female Na'Reish leader, Imhara. As much as I loved Kymora the best female in this series, I totally adored Imhara. She is a great kickass heroine, who is perfect to battle Arek and his Na'Reish hatred. Imhara, as the Clan leader, is not a true Na'Reish, as she comes from the old ways, believing in the Lady, and helping humans survive against the violent demons. Imhara has planned for many years to try to form an alliance with the Light Blade humans, and work with them to destroy the leader of the Na'Reish, Savyn.
It is Imhara's warriors to rescue Arek, but he is ready to kill Imhara and her warriors, since to him they are demons, and not to be trusted. What follows is a wonderful story, of Imhara and her people breaking down Arek's damaged barriers and getting him to learn to trust them. The chemistry between them was awesome, even if it was a match that could never work, but slowly the barrier and trust between them breaks down. Arek had to face his own demons of the past, and find a way to help Imhara and her team destroy the enemy.
This was such an enjoyable read; I could not put the book down. Besides a great couple like Arek and Imhara, Griffin has created some wonderful secondary characters throughout this series, and in this book, Rassan is excellent. Watching Imhara work on Arek to open his eyes, and heart, and eventually finding herself totally falling for him, and his fighting off his own attraction was wonderfully done. The main villain in this series continues to appear, but the new villain, Yur, was despicable. I loved how Imhara handled him and the other Na'Reish warriors who look down on woman, especially a strong and fierce woman like Imhara. The ensuing battle to attempt to defeat the enemy was filled with excitement, adventure in a dangerous climax. At the end it was great to meet up with Kalan, Annika, Kymora, and Varian. However, Griffin though resolving everything in this story, leaves things open to continue this series, and I for one hope she does. We need more of this Light Blade series, and the world she has created. I also love Kylie Griffin's writing style. I highly recommend that you read this book, but please start with the first book.

Allegiance Sworn is the third in the author's Light Blade fantasy series. In this book, a tough female warrior must show a hot-headed soldier the true meaning of compassion and light.
Arek Barial is a Light Warrior. A human with magical skills who lives to slay the demons that hunt down his kind and drain them of blood. Unfortunately, Arek has been caught and is being transported to be sold as a slave to the merciless demons. But not all of those with demons blood are evil. And Arek is lucky to be taken in by an unusual Na'Reish leader named Imhara Kaal. Imhara is the only female leader and she secretly buys humans not to enslave them but to save them! In her land, humans and demons live in harmony. However, her freedom and leadership may be cut short when her leader orders her to marry a demon of his choosing. But Imhara plays a dangerous game for she will use her upcoming marriage to get closer to the leader and man responsible for her father's death. Imhara lives for revenge. But Imhara also knows without her leadership her clan will be exposed. Humans and those of mixed blood will loose their freedom, too. So she hopes to befriend Arek and reach an alliance with humans. But Arek does not believe her -even as she tempts him with her promises and her beauty.
This is one fascinating world. The author really explores prejudice and how destructive both humans and demons are to the well being of both their kinds. While demons do need the help of human blood they do not need to bleed them dry. But many demons disrespect human lives, killing them with their blood craving. And most do not want to live in harmony with humans like Imhara. In addition, most humans want nothing to do with demons even if they could be their salvation. This book brings hope, especially since Arek is well grounded in his hatred for demons and actually changes his attitude and beings to care for one! But it seems there will be another book that will delve further into the uneasy demon and human alliance. I liked the resourceful and self-sacrificing Imhara. I really admired her courage, compassion and determination. Her nobility of character carried this book and I wish there was another book just on her climb to leadership of her clan.
Anyone who love fantasy, passion and a well thought out story will love this amazing fantasy.
