Fox received her BA and MA in Journalism. After college she worked for a daily newspaper as a news-feature writer. For 28 years she taught high school journalism and English. She retired from teaching four years after the death of her only daughter.

The author interviewed about 25 different parents who lost one or more children of various ages and differing circumstances. Very honest and open. Very different ways of dealing with this terrible grief. But you may already know there are so many different ways that we must deal with this.

Compelling Stories from Compelling People

The death of a loved one is a harsh blow. Whether it comes suddenly, in an accident or natural disaster, or after a long battle with illness, the survivors are left with an emptiness that defies description. And when the loved one is a child--no matter how old--that emptiness, says author Sandy Fox, never goes away.
Ms. Fox's 27-year-old daughter Marcy was killed in an automobile accident just when life had begun to fully open before her. The driver that caused her death has never been found.
"When your child dies, you change," Ms. Fox writes in Chapter 5: "Private Thoughts on Healing." "The person you were before is gone. The life you had before is no longer possible."
"The heartache that comes when the natural order of things is changed, when your child dies before you," adds her ex-husband Jess, Marcy's father, "is unfathomable."
In I HAVE NO INTENTION OF SAYING GOOD-BYE Ms. Fox has compiled the stories of 24 other families devastated by the loss of one or more children, revealing the similarity of the pain they suffer and the many and varied ways they dealt with it. It is an enlightening study of grief and redemption, of anger and epiphany.
This is not the first book to address the issues of mourning or the death of children. Romance story -- Great Descriptions, Okay Plot

Billed on the Kindle First page as a psychological suspense story, "Evelyn, After" would fit in nicely on a bookshelf with other Harlequin romance novels. If you are a fan of that genre, you will probably enjoy this book. Here is a quick review, without spoilers:

WRITING -- The reader experiences the story through Evelyn, and is privy to every thought she has while processing her husband's recent affair. Evelyn swims through various emotions in her attempts to come to grips with the events on the night she discovers he is cheating on her. The book can be a bit disorienting at times, as the author alternately subtitles each chapter as "Before" or "After." The reader is whipped back and forth in time, first experiencing Evelyn's initial reactions followed by the choices the "new" Evelyn makes, with the sequence repeated throughout the book. I can appreciate that this creates tension in the earlier chapters, but near the end of the book, a reader can easily deduce the events of the "Before" chapters because of facts already revealed in the "After" chapters.
Ms. Stone entertains the reader with many descriptive passages, such as: "She couldn't remember whatever demons she'd been fighting in her sleep, but there were plenty more crouched and waiting for her when she woke." Another great picture: "...she'd imagined herself growing into an artist with wild, creative friends...Now everything about her was dull...She was one of those moms she'd watched on TV as a child. The pleasant owner of a home on a cul-de-sac, a sight she'd only witnessed in movies until she'd bought that home for herself." These types of passages are peppered throughout the book, and made the book more enjoyable.

PLOT -- Ninety per cent of the book concerns Evelyn, centering on her thoughts and actions. Faced with her husband's infidelity as well as the secret she must share concerning her husband's last night with his mistress, Evelyn's subsequent actions at times might seem unbelievable. However, who can tell what a person's emotions might impel them to do, and the only time I had to suspend belief was when she talked about dropping four sizes in two weeks. Evelyn's choices made sense as she struggled to bring order to the chaos that suddenly invaded her normal life.

WHAT ABOUT... -- The author drops a couple of f-bombs as well as a vulgarity here and there. However, I felt the f-bombs were appropriately spoken in the one conversation where they occurred, and the vulgarities were used sparingly and not scattered throughout the book on every other page. The sex scenes were handled delicately, and as a reader I understood exactly what was happening without the author resorting to language typically used by high schoolers in the locker room.

BOTTOM LINE -- Essentially, this is a story of someone’s wife becoming the woman she has kept locked inside for twenty years. It is not an incredible story nor is it horrible. It is okay, and as I previously stated, Harlequin romance readers will enjoy this one. Let's call it 3-1/2 stars (extra half-star for the great descriptions).

Probably would have liked it if it were categorized properly

SPOILERS AHEAD. Like another reviewer mentioned, this was marketed as psychological thriller/suspense, and the first third of the book did provide that. But towards the midway point it just sunk a lot into the midlife crisis the main character was going through. Lots of agonizing introspection, not very suspenseful or thrilling at all. I skipped to the end and there was a kind of twist, but it really wasn't all that shocking given what we know about that character. Lots of sex and body image issues, all handled well but I believe a better fit for the romance genre. Author bio says she's taking a turn towards "darker" side of genre fiction but I personally didn't think throwing in a crime and a suicide attempt into what's pretty much a romance novel makes it very dark. Again, the book was definitely well written but it was not marketed properly at all. Two stars for the writing quality.

Taking New York Times bestselling author Suzanne Brockmann’s verdict at face value proved to be a wise choice as historical and contemporary romance author Victoria Dahl turned psychological suspense thriller author Victoria Helen Stone’s debut novel in her new avatar is a stunning read, well-conceived and brilliantly executed.

Evelyn, After follows the emotionally heartbreaking, electrifying story of a forty-plus Evelyn Tester who leads a seemingly happy life. Married close to two decades to Dr. Gary Tester, a psychiatrist by profession, the Testers are blessed with a smart and healthy seventeen-year-old son Cameron Tester who will be off to college soon. Life couldn’t be more promising. But Evelyn’s world came crashing down one evening when she received a phone call from Gary to rush to the site of an accident. One thing leads to another, spinning her world out of control. She’s sick with rage, horror and grief at discovering what her husband was doing to her. Sick that she was married to a man she didn’t know at all. Evelyn had worked, and toiled, almost the entire past two decades for her family – raised money for whichever school Cameron attended, volunteered her time and energy all for the sake of her family. But it all came to nothing. Fury was burning deep inside her.

Then there’s Juliette Whitman, all of thirty-seven, a sweet and lovely perfect blond second-grade teacher, with two perfect little children aged six and eight and a handsome forty-year-old husband Noah Whitman, who owns the Whitman Gallery, a tasteful and elegant boutique shop. Married for over eleven years, the Whitmans, like the Testers, are also leading a seemingly perfect life, respected in the community, and it seems nothing could possibly destroy such a family. Or is it?

Evelyn, After by Victoria Helen Stone is one absorbing read with elements of intrigue, suspense, and romance. Victoria nails you in suspense from beginning to end. The storyline is forever winding, but is always plausible and never unbelievable. The characters are unique and fairly well-fleshed out and realistic, and their roles carefully considered and formed. What makes Evelyn, After so enjoyable is the dialogue between the characters, specially between Evelyn Tester and Noah Whitman. It added flavour to the overall distinctiveness of the story. What really stands out was Victoria’s flowing writing and narrative which really make it easy to follow the story. I was also deeply impressed by the “before” and “after” format used in alternating chapters, which was persuasive and convincing in its delivery. In the end, I’m thrilled to concur with bestselling author Suzanne Brockmann. Evelyn, After by Victoria Helen Stone is one of the most engrossing and absorbing books across all genres that I’ve read in a long time.

The role of PSA for the plants is an estimation of the risks in absolute terms and in comparison with other risks of the technical and the natural world. Plant-specific PSAs are being prepared for the plants and being applied for detection of weaknesses, design improvement and backfitting, incident analysis, accident management, emergency preparedness, prioritization of research and development and to support the regulatory activities.

There are three levels of PSA, being performed for full power and low power operation and shutdown operating modes of the plants: level 1, 2 and 3 PSA. The nuclear regulatory authorities do not require the level 3 PSA for the plants in the member countries of the European Union. This means that only a limited number of NPPs in Europe have the level 3 PSA available. However, in the light of the Fukushima accident the performance of such analyses is strongly recommended in the future. About the Author
Zoltan Kovacs is Managing Director of the company RELKO Ltd, Engineering and Consulting Services. He received his engineering degree and Ph.D in nuclear engineering from Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Slovakia. He is actively involved in the area of probabilistic safety assessment of nuclear power plants and other potentially dangerous technologies. He is project manager of the level 1 and level 2 living PSA projects being performed for the Slovak NPPs in operation. He has closed cooperation with IAEA as a lecturer in the PSA training courses. He represents Slovakia in the Working Group for Risk Assessment of NPPs (WGRISK) in OECD.

In her illuminating work and unbound passion, Tahmina Watson reminds us how immigrants that have been the fiber of what has made US an innovation powerhouse that stands to be challenged today in the global economy.

With focus on US policy, she probes and demands us to join her in the movement to shine the light on the issue at hand and what we stand to lose if immigration laws are not changed.

She accomplishes this by not only blending history but also providing real life examples today about the importance of the Startup Visa if US desires to continue staying relevant in the world. Examples include Alibaba (think Amazon, eBay, Paypal combined) - the Chinese ecommerce behemoth with market valuation surpassing that of Walmart or India quickly turning into the de facto as incubator and technology hub.

Reality is that entrepreneurship and innovation is happening all around the world. Many of these brilliant entrepreneurs would reside in the US if it weren’t for the current immigration laws. The author is an incredibly compassionate attorney who is sought after for her immigration skills and insight. The fact that there are many talented people from around the world who would love to bring their skills and experience to the USA probably isn't a big surprise, and neither is the fact that this is quite difficult for them to immigrate here. What might be surprising, and should be worrying is that because of these boundaries the US is beginning to fall behind in attracting the kind of global talent that creates companies like Levi Strauss, Yahoo!, and Ebay. Tahmina Watson does an excellent job of providing background on American immigration policy, showing how countries such as Canada, the UK, Italy, New Zealand, Chile, and many others have developed programs to attract entrepreneurs, and then giving a concrete explanation of how the US could do the same.
