HOT, ROMANTIC, HOT, DANGEROUS, HOT!!!

This book is hotter than the first two books! Gosh, I don't even know how to write this review. It's so good, words are not enough to express it!

Galerius quit when he failed to save the first emperor and to protect the second emperor. His pride was wounded and he decided quitting was the best solution. A few months later, he was dragged back into the empire. He was presented an opportunity to redeem himself. I was so glad he didn't give up, and he wasn't the kind of soldier who became disrespectful when they were harboring self-loathing.

The first time Galerius and Claudia met, they shared a steamy time together. The second time, they shared another steamy time. The third, yet again. You get my idea? They can't keep their hands off each other! I absolutely enjoyed that. They were hopelessly attracted to each other; it was sometimes hard to focus on their mission.

Claudia was described as such a beautiful woman, I can't believe I was one of the people who didn't care much for her. Yes, she was the Black Widow, but she was only doing her duties, as horrible as that might have been. What choice did she have?

Claudia had a slave who had a son named Kafi. The kid was so clever! I wished whatever happened to him in the book didn't happen. He had so much potential and deserved so much more.

Claudia's father and brother were sick! The author did such a great job portraying them as practically monsters. They treated Claudia as if she was one of the slaves. The way her brother treated her like a whore was just wrong.

This story lacked the humor I enjoyed from the first two books, but the amount of steam definitely made up for it. When I think of this book, I'm filled with so much warmth, as if I was enveloped with Galerius and Claudia's emotions :)

A sinfully seductive, breathtaking erotic fantasy...

`Deception's Web' {book 3 in the Deizian Empire series} is set within a spectacular science-fictional world, containing elements that reminded me of Star Wars; such as the politics and the Empire that domineered the social hierarchy of civilization. It also has a distinct Roman feel to it with the clothing, chariots, swords and stone pillars. Christa Mchugh deftly interweaves a mix of genre; from fantasy, paranormal romance with erotica making this a most atypical and original read.

Claudia is a striking blonde, blue-eyed beauty and daughter of the ambitious Hostilius Deizian. Three-times widowed as part of her father's political plans in climbing up the social ladder, she is ignorant of intensely felt passion and true love having to endure such condescension from family members. Her horrid brother, Asinius is as poisinus as his father and both will stop at nothing to overthrow the current Emperor and claim the throne. Hostilius looks upon the Empress Azhura {who is an Alpirion} with derision, despite her having dual identity's as "The Rabbit" - a skilled assassin and wielder of magic.

Galerius, a retired Elymanian soldier of the Imperial Army is called upon to uncover the truth behind all the riddles and aid the Empress who is with child. Neither Claudia nor Galerius expect to fall into a heated romance that could compromise not only their futures, but the entire Empire and political structure of leadership...

This is a tale of cryptic riddles, lies and deception wherein at some point each character will fool another to the point of lying to themselves. The main characters eventually have to make the ultimate decision and decide whose side they are really on...before it is all too late! Unlike any fantasy story I have encountered this spectacular story is wrought with heated fervent passion amid a tangled web of tantalizing temptation. This romantic story with its memorable characters is engaging, deliciously addictive and a true guilty pleasure! I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a riveting read. 4.5 stars!!

The third installment of Crista McHugh’s Deizian Empire series takes readers outside of the Deizian palace and to a neighboring providence. Titus and Azurha have tasked Galerius with some investigative spying work. Someone in Tivola has been sending anonymous letters with accurate information involving plots against the empire. Titus and Azurha need the people behind the nefarious plots stopped. They also need to know who is behind the anonymous letters. They see Galerius as the perfect man for the job even though he has his own doubts about his abilities to protect the Imperial Majesties.

Due to her father’s scheming deceptions for more power and money Claudia has become known as the black widow. Claudia knows that she is nothing more than a means to an end for the man that fathered her. She knows that she is one of the expendable people in his life. She also knows many of his secretive plots to gain power and his desire to overthrow the ruling bodies of the empire. Claudia is about to do something courageous and selfless. She wants freedom, her desires to no longer be a pawn in his games has pushed her to take a stand and reveal him for the traitor he is.

I love reading the villain turned hero, or in this case heroine. Readers first meet Claudia in Tangled Web. While she is not really a villain she is also not someone you can like as a human. She is being used by her father for his political gains and shoved into Titus’s harem. Flash forward many months and she is trying to protect Titus’s empire. Galerius is doing the same thing when their paths cross and he must figure out if she is in on her father’s plots or if she is the informant he has been sent to find.

Galerius and Claudia work well together. They both have some confidence issues due to how their fathers treated them. They also have this ability to give each other compassionate love that each has never dreamed of experiencing much less actually finding in one another. As with all the books in the Deizian Empire, Poisoned Web needs to be read in order. This series has a great blend of futuristic sci fi, steamy romance, and elements of some far off ancient era of times far gone.

A Wickedly Funny HIstorical!

King Henry sends his court jester, Nicholas to the home of Hugh, the Earl of Fordham. Nicholas is to be a wedding present for the earl, and his bride, Isabeau. At the same time, Julianna, Isabeau's widowed daughter, is summoned to the home also. Nicholas and Julianna share a litter on their ride to the earl's home. We, as readers, get to eavesdrop on their wickedly funny conversation. And of course, we share in their romance, as well.
Nicholas has a hidden agenda. At King Henry's behest, he's to find the chalice of Saint Hugelina, the Dragon, and bring it to him. Julianna, and others, stand in his way. Julianna, has suffered a miserable marriage and wishes to join a convent. She has no wish to join with a "fool", a court jester. Nicholas, however, has different ideas. How Nicholas brings his two goals together, is what makes this book so very good.
This story is peopled with many interesting supporting characters. Hugh and Isabeau provide an unusual secondary romance. There's a priest who is truly evil, and a Brother Abbot who has his own agenda. Gilbert, a fosterling of Hugh's has a sweet face and a "killer" disposition. All, and others, play major rolls in the finding of the chalice, and in Julianna's and Nicholas' romance.
This is not a "dark" romance. There is humor, sly and clever innuendoes, Nicholas' rhymes, bawdy songs. If you're like me, you'll find yourself laughing out loud. And yet none of the humor hurts the romance, at all. The sensuality is sweet, but also erotic. And, Nicholas and Julianna felt very "real" to me. I read, and enjoyed this book in one sitting; and, I will read it again soon. This was a "keeper" for me!

Anne Stuart at her best!!

This has definitely got to be one of my favorites by Anne Stuart. It was a funny, heart warming and yet heart wrenching romantic adventure. I loved it!! It is about a young widow named Julianna, who, after her cold husband of ten years passes away, is sent to stay with her mother whom she has not seen since her marriage. She was sent away when she was 11 to marry the older man and since then has not been able to completely forgive her mother. Well, now her mother (also a widow) is to be remarried and the King has sent Nicholas, a jester, as a temporary wedding gift. However, Nicholas is REALLY sent to steal a precious chalice from Julianna's step father-to-be and has no idea what he is about to get himself into. The characters in this book are rich and full of life. I absolutely adored Julianna and Nicholas. Even at his worse, Nicholas was a splendid character. Full of adventure and fun and romance, I highly recommend this book. After having read several of Anne Stuart's books, I believe this one comes very, very close to being her best yet. So, anyone with a liking for romances with a twist and charming characters should definitely pick this book up!! It is one you are not likely to forget for quite some time.

Bawdy fun and great romance

The hero of this book, Nicholas Strangefellow, is a court jester for Henry III. But come on, this is an Anne Stuart book, so we soon find out that he is also a secret agent for the king, with secrets of his own and ambitions for the future. He is also quite the ladies' man, and is a favorite of the king's sister.
He is sent by Henry to Fortham Castle to steal the Chalice of St. Hugelina the Dragon, a religious relic that the king covets, under the guise of being the "entertainment" for the Earl of Fortham's upcoming wedding. Right away Nicholas meets Julianna of Moncrieff, who is the daughter of the earl's bride (they all married really young in those days). Julianna was married off as a child to an old, abusive husband, and now that he's dead, she wants nothing further to do with men. Nicholas, who prides himself on being able to charm any woman he wants, is at first picqued by her indifference to him. Soon, he becomes fascinated by her mixture of toughness and kindness, and of innocence and warinesss, and he immediately embarks on a course of seduction of the wary widow. She resists him, but is secretly falling under his spell.
At Fortham, intrigue is heavy as various characters try to trip each other to get to the relic. There's an evil abbot, a priest, a ruthless teenage assassin, the powerful earl himself, the cunning Nicholas and his servant Bogo. And Julianna and her mother get in on the action as well. All the intrigue is handled very well by Stuart, and it never gets confusing.
Julianna keeps up a tough shell, but she's helplessly drawn by Nicholas's sharp mind, by the way he sees into her soul, and of course, by his seductive charms. Nicholas thinks he's got everything under control; he thinks he's not falling desperately in love with Julianna, and besides, he's a scoundrel with a precarious future and nothing to offer a lady such as she. Being proven wrong has never been this crazy and sweet.
This book is a delightful medieval romp, with some intense and poignant moments in the romance between Nicholas and Julianna. There's a sweet secondary romance between Julianna's mother and the Earl of Fortham. Nicholas's rhymes are annoying, cheesy, and wicked, and there are some outrageous characters the likes of which only Anne Stuart can pull off with such aplomb. The language and sentence structure can be rather inelegant, and the ending seems a bit rushed, but overall, this is a very enjoyable read.

He is just like the patient

It is rather arbitrary to put a finish date on this book because I read it through almost every year. I have the Kindle version, and I dip into it whenever I have a few minutes waiting for some event. This book saved my life. I began reading Kopp in 1984 as part of a personal therapy pilgrimage. His wisdom in facing the issues that plague most of us led me to some of my most profound examination of my life.

I probably picked up the book the first time because of its intriguing title. I came to understand that the book was Kopp's explanation of the psychotherapy model he uses. In his title, the "Buddha" is the one with all the answers. The psychotherapist does not. He is just like the patient, someone looking for answers and for a journey into self. Using ancient literature, especially from Jewish sources, the guides the reader and patients to the most powerful and dangerous journey of all. The journey into self.

I still find that it takes me about half a year to get through the book each time. The first time I read it, I stayed awake all night reading, and subsequently, I've read it again several times in a day or two or have taken months to read. It's always rewarding.

Gave Me Clarity and a New Perspective on Life

Unfortunately, this isn't a book you can explain to others. I will say this, if you have the slightest curiosity, I suggest you read this book; however, you must follow this book closely and pay attention to its narrative in order to grasp its full meaning. Moreover, you should access your ability to read between the lines, so as to thoroughly understand it. You may need to read other pieces of literature because Mr. Kopp references other materials to make his point. For example, he uses Dante's Inferno in his book and if you don't know the meaning behind that poem you'll miss the point Mr. Kopp's trying to make.

This book gave me clarity on my life and a new perspective as well. Upon completion of this book, I immediately started making adjustments in my life to follow the book's suggestion. I'll leave you with this, trust yourself and no one else, after all, as an adult you're your best teacher as a "grown up". Simply put, "If You Meet the Buddha on the Road, Kill Him!

Thank you to the TV show "Fringe" for exposing me to this book so happy to have read it. Great book and an even better life changing read! Happy Reading!!!

Surprisingly Relevant

L. Shannon Jung provokes a searching awareness of our attitudes toward food, distribution ethics, and a different context for eating disorders that is surprisingly relevant for our time, in Food for Life. Though dealing with important and often sobering realities, Jung's writing is easily followed and engaging. No idealist, nor "preacher," Jung leads us through a valuable reflection of our neglect of the whole self while feeding our bodies through unconscious consumption. Highly recommend this book for insights on more intentional and interconnected living...it was not what I expected.

Food for Life is Powerful!

First, to clear up any misconception, let me be clear. Far from being a self-help book for weight loss or eating disorders, Food for Life, is theology and religious philosophy. L. Shannon Jung's book is a treatise on food and the physical and spiritual hungers that drive our interactions with God, one another and the world around us. It is a powerful commentary on the social, institutional and systemic ills that pervert our attitudes toward the food we eat and how we can begin to return to a place of moral, spiritual and physical health. Jung tempers his critiques with a pervasive joy of food and eating, and what he insists should be the celebration of God and creation. Jung is a Christian theologian and Food for Life is clearly written from that perspective, but the insights he offers are universal and, in my opinion, provide a welcome companion to important other topical works such as; Pollan's The Omnivore's Dilemma and Weber's Food Inc.

Duh, Read the descrition!!!

Bought on recommendation of a recent acquaintance,I might have gotten the title wrong and I didn't read the description.
This book is very christian and being that I cannot stomach any religion imagine a food book with a religious bent. This went straight into recycle bin so hopefully it's something more useful now, like toilet paper.
